Review of PMR exam dates
PETALING JAYA: The Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) examination will be moved nearer to the end of October in response to parents and students' unhappiness over the previous dates.
The dates announced last month split the examination into two – with subjective papers held from Oct 13 to 15, and the objective papers on Nov 4 and 5. The examination was previously held in early October.
“We will move the examination nearer to the end of October so there will only be a few days break in between the subjective and objective papers,” Education director-general Datuk Alimuddin Mohd Dom told The Star.
He plans to meet Malaysian Examinations Syndicate (MES) officials next week to review the matter.
Alimuddin said earlier that the MES was unable to hold all the PMR papers in November as the results had to be released before the end of the year.
“Examiners need time to mark the subjective papers while the objective papers are marked electronically,” he said.
The PMR results, he added, had to be released before the end of the year to enable students to decide which stream they wanted to opt for in Form Four, or to apply for entry into residential schools before the new school term started in early January.
“The MES set the new dates for this year after taking into consideration the feedback from various quarters, which wanted public examinations to be held nearer the end of the year to prevent truancy among students,” he said.
Well is it good or a bad thing? Give me your views if your like me having the examination this year
